UCCA尤倫斯當代藝術中心懷著無比沉痛的心情宣佈,UCCA創始人之一、著名藝術贊助人、慈善家蓋伊·尤倫斯(Guy Ullens,1935-2025)今日於家中安詳離世,享年90歲。作為中國當代藝術發展歷程中最重要的國際支持者之一,尤倫斯先生的遠見卓識與慷慨奉獻,深刻影響了中國當代藝術的國際化程序。

蓋伊·尤倫斯畢生致力於推動國際文化交流與對話。在商業領域取得卓越成就後,他全心投入藝術與慈善事業,自1980年代起便與中國當代藝術界結下不解之緣。2007年,蓋伊·尤倫斯與夫人米莉恩·尤倫斯共同創立了UCCA的前身尤倫斯當代藝術中心,這一機構成為他深耕中國當代藝術數十年的重要見證,持續滋養著中國藝術創作的土壤。

作為最早活躍於中國的國際收藏家之一,尤倫斯先生在支援中國藝術家群體、推動其作品獲得國際認可方面發揮了關鍵作用。他的奉獻精神奠定了UCCA成長為中國傑出的、國際知名的當代藝術機構的基礎。2017年,尤倫斯夫婦將UCCA交由新的管理團隊運營後,仍以UCCA基金會理事會成員身份持續且密切關注機構發展。

除建立UCCA外,尤倫斯夫婦還透過蓋伊與米莉恩·尤倫斯基金會、尼泊爾尤倫斯學校及支援癌症患者的米米基金會等慈善專案,踐行他們“以教育、創造力與文化交融推動世界向善”的信念。尤倫斯先生因其慈善貢獻屢獲殊榮,包括法國榮譽軍團勳章與比利時利奧波德二世勳章。

UCCA is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Baron Guy Ullens, visionary patron of the arts, philanthropist, and founder of UCCA Center for Contemporary Art. He died peacefully at his home on April 19 at the age of 90.
Born in 1935, Guy Ullens had a lifelong interest in international cultural exchange and dialogue. After a successful career in business, he devoted himself to the arts and philanthropy, including an engagement with China’s contemporary art scene that began in the 1980s.

In 2007, Guy Ullens, with his late wife Myriam, founded the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (now UCCA Center for Contemporary Art) in Beijing, building on their deep engagement with contemporary art in China. As one of the earliest international collectors active in China, Ullens played a pivotal role in supporting a generation of Chinese artists and fostering global recognition of their work. His commitment laid the foundation for UCCA to grow into China’s leading contemporary art institution, and one of international significance. In 2017, the Ullens family transferred ownership of UCCA to a new group of patrons, but remained valued members of the UCCA community, serving on the UCCA Foundation Council.

“Guy Ullens believed above all in the power of art to enrich lives and create connections across cultures. By founding an art institution in China, he put that belief into action, doing something wildly original and generous. UCCA, which he conceived and nurtured through its first decade, has highlighted hundreds of artists, inspired millions of visitors, and launched countless careers. With gratitude, we remember his kindness, passion, and cosmopolitanism, as we carry forward the project that he began,” states UCCA Director and Chief Executive Philip Tinari.

In addition to founding UCCA, Guy and Myriam Ullens were active philanthropists, with their non-profit efforts including, among others, the Fondation Guy & Myriam Ullens, the Ullens School in Nepal, and the Mimi Foundation in support of cancer patients, reflecting their shared belief in education, creativity, and cultural exchange as forces for good. For his philanthropic contributions, Ullens received numerous honors including the French Legion of Honour and the Belgian Order of Leopold II.
UCCA remembers Guy Ullens with the deepest respect and gratitude for his remarkable contributions, to UCCA, to the history of Chinese contemporary art, and to promoting global cultural exchange. His legacy endures—in the institutions he founded, the artists he championed, and in the communities he helped build—and will continue to shape and inspire UCCA’s work and mission.
