Following days of heavy rainfall across multiple cities in Guangdong province, residents have reported an unusual sight: large numbers of oversized snails crawling on streets as the downpours subsided.

非洲大蝸牛是什麼？
非洲大蝸牛，又名褐雲瑪瑙螺、非洲巨螺等，被列入了《中國第一批外來入侵物種名單》。因其平常只敢在草叢中潮溼處活動，到路上可能會幹死，曬死，下雨後它才敢到處爬。
The giant land snail (Lissachatina fulica) typically hide in damp grass or soil to avoid drying out or dying due to too much sunlight. Heavy rains create moist conditions that allow them to venture into open areas.
這種非洲大蝸牛喜歡吃農作物、林木、蔬菜和花卉等植物，可危害500多種作物，是國家進出境二類檢疫性有害生物。同時，它也是許多人畜寄生蟲和病原菌的中間宿主，會傳播結核病和嗜酸性腦膜炎。
They prefer to devour crops, trees, vegetables and ornamental plants, damaging over 500 types of vegetation. Classified as a Category II quarantine pest for import plants, giant land snails also act as carriers for parasites and pathogens, including tuberculosis and eosinophilic meningitis.
同時，其身上攜帶多種細菌，用手觸控，會引起皮炎、皮膚瘙癢、腫脹等。
They carry multiple bacteria, and having direct contact may lead to skin irritation, itching, swelling or dermatitis.
非洲大蝸牛身上最常見的寄生蟲是廣州管圓線蟲，這種寄生蟲會往人體的中樞神經或腦脊液裡“鑽”，一旦感染，患者會不斷髮熱、頭痛，引發腦膜炎，嚴重的還會危及生命。
如何清除非洲大蝸牛？
據瞭解，非洲大蝸牛一次可以產下30到700粒卵，繁殖速度很快，它爬行的地方會留下黏液，而黏液本身就攜帶著病原體，甚至在它們的糞便中，依舊存活著病菌和寄生蟲。如不小心踩到，要及時做好清洗工作。
The giant land snails reproduce rapidly, laying 30–700 eggs at a time. Their trails of mucus and feces may harbor pathogens. Individuals who step on a snail are urged to wash immediately to eliminate any potential pathogens they made have unconsciously come in contact with.
如在小區發現數量較多的“大蝸牛”，可以找物業公司進行處理，或者找專業的殺蟲公司處理。如果在家裡發現少數蝸牛，可利用家中的食鹽處理。蝸牛被撒食鹽後，軟體部分會融化成水而死亡。
If a large number of giant land snails are found in your residential community, contact the property management company or hire a professional pest control company for removal.
If you spot a few snails indoors, use table salt to eliminate them. When sprinkled with salt, the snail's soft body will dehydrate, melting into a liquid before ultimately dying.
