Shi Yongxin, the abbot of the world-renowned Shaolin Temple, is being investigated by multiple agencies for embezzlement, "improper relationships with multiple women" and "fathering illegitimate children", the temple said on Sunday.
世界聞名的少林寺方面週日表示，方丈釋永信正接受多部門聯合調查，涉嫌挪用公款、“與多名女性關係不當”及“私生子”問題。
這句話的主幹是：Shi Yongxin is being investigated by…for A, B and C.
釋永信因A、B、C正接受…的調查。
表示“某人因涉嫌X而接受調查”，除了be investigated for…，也可以說be under investigation on suspicion of…，《衛報》的報道中便用了這個短語：
China’s famous Shaolin Temple has announced that its abbot is under investigation on suspicion of misappropriation and embezzlement of project funds and temple assets.
中國著名寺院少林寺宣佈，其方丈正因涉嫌挪用和侵佔專案資金及寺院資產接受調查。
回到文中來，Shi Yongxin後面接了個同位語結構，以介紹其身份：the abbot of the world-renowned Shaolin Temple
abbot [ˈæbət] 指 “男修道院的院長”，原指西方基督教修道院中的男性負責人（與“修女院長”abbess [ˈæbes] 區分）。文中對應為“方丈”，即佛教寺廟中住持事務的最高僧人，負責管理整座寺廟。
此外，也可以用head, head monk表示，《金融時報》便用了head一詞：
world-renowned 指“聞名世界的”，也可以用internationally famous, globally recognized / celebrated / prestigious表示。
is being investigated by multiple agencies中，multiple 表示 “多個的、數個的”，寫作中可替換 many，使語言更加高階。
我們結合真題練習一下：
2023年12月六級第三套的作文主題是“老年人憑專業技能繼續為社會做貢獻”，我們可以說：

前幾天有條熱搜話題：報復性熬夜其實是情緒未被滿足。我們可以說：

多項研究表明，報復性熬夜與白天未釋放的壓力有關。
agency指“機構、代理機構”，具備“代表他人、行使職權”的特徵，例如租房、買房時，我們會接觸real estate agency（房產中介），旅遊時，可能會接觸travel agency（旅行社），一些政府監管部門也可以用agency表示，例如tax agency（稅務局），market regulation agency（工商局）。文中is being investigated by multiple agencies意思是：受到多個部門的調查。
“政府部門”也可以用department表示，《衛報》的報道中便用了這個詞：
The notice said a joint investigation was being carried out by multiple departments and its findings would be announced in due course.
通報稱，多個部門正在聯合開展調查，相關結果將在適當時候予以公佈。
in due course英文解釋是at the appropriate or expected time; eventually, but not right now. 指“在適當的時候、到時候會”，不像 soon 那樣快，也不像 eventually 那樣遙遙無期。常用於新聞、公文、公告、等正式場合。
例如，求職時你投了簡歷，對方回你說：
Thank you for your application. We will contact you in due course.感謝你的申請，我們會在適當的時候與你聯絡。
再如，學校釋出通知：
The final exam results will be posted in due course on the university website.期末考試成績將在適當時候公佈在學校官網。
再如，旅行途中乘務員廣播：
We will begin serving meals in due course.我們將在適當時間開始供餐。
回到文中來，embezzlement指“挪用、侵佔（公款、公物）”，屬於經濟類犯罪。
fathering illegitimate children中，我們都知道father的名詞形式是“父親”，這裡作動詞，表示“成為父親”，文中father illegitimate children則表示“私生育子女”。
例如：
Rumor has it he fathered a child with his assistant.
傳言他和助理生了個孩子。
再如：
The late founder of Wahaha, Zong Qinghou, reportedly fathered several illegitimate children.
據報道，娃哈哈已故創始人宗慶後有多個私生子。

這句話的主幹是：The 1,500-year-old Shaolin Temple attracts thousands of disciples…
located in a mountain range in central China's Henan province是過去分詞（形容詞）形式的後置定語，修飾Shaolin Temple.
range在這裡是熟詞僻義，指a group of mountains or hills, usually in a line“山脈”。
disciple 指“弟子，門徒，追隨者”，尤指宗教/思想上的追隨者，帶有一點狂熱色彩，同devotee。
《經濟學人·訃告》在描述泡麵之父安藤百福的一生時，就用了disciple一詞來表示安藤百福的的追隨者、粉絲：
But the patient disciple achieved fulfilment: mouthful upon mouthful of warming, strangely angular noodles, in flavours such as “Hearty Chicken” or “Shrimp Picante”. 然然而，耐心的信徒卻能一口一口地吸溜著熱乎乎、奇形怪狀、 帶有諸如“大塊雞肉” “香辣蝦仁”等風 味的麵條，達到心滿意足的境界。

He has been stripped of his ordination certificate amid the probe, China's Buddhist association said on Monday. "Shi Yongxin's actions are extremely bad, seriously damaging the reputation of the Buddhist community and the image of monks," the Buddhist Association of China said in its statement.
中國佛教協會週一表示，釋永信已被暫停戒牒。中國佛教協會在宣告中指出，釋永信行為惡劣，嚴重損害佛教界聲譽，破壞僧人形象。
strip 本義是“剝去、脫下（衣服）”，be stripped of則表示“被剝奪了”，後面加頭銜、權利、資格等。
例如，在外賣大戰中，有奶茶店1天利潤僅400元，這反映出在外賣平臺日趨強勢的背景下，中小商家的議價權被削弱。可以說：
Small businesses are often stripped of their bargaining power during price wars on delivery platforms.
在外賣平臺的價格戰中，小商家常常被剝奪議價能力。
2021年12月六級第三套作文主題為“父母因擔心孩子犯錯而過度保護孩子”。作文中我們可以寫：
Overprotected children may be stripped of the chance to learn from failure.
被過度保護的孩子可能被剝奪了從失敗中學習的機會。
回到文中來，ordination certificate指“戒牒”，即出家證明、僧侶任命證書。其中ordination指“聖職授任、授戒（佛教或基督教）”，這個詞瞭解即可。
certificate是“資質證明”，例如教師資格證（teaching certificate），執業醫師證（medical license）。
對比閱讀一下《衛報》的報道：
On Monday, China’s Buddhist Association stripped Shi of his ordination certificate, accusing him of “seriously undermining the reputation of the Buddhist community and the image of monks”. Shi has not responded publicly to the allegations.
中國佛教協會於週一宣佈撤銷釋永信的戒牒，指其“嚴重損害佛教界聲譽，破壞僧人形象”。截至目前，釋永信尚未就相關指控公開回應。
這段話也用了strip of，不過是主動用法。
“損害…的聲譽”，BBC用了damage一詞，《衛報》用的是undermine，同義替換積累下來。
