你是否同意：瞭解你所居住的城市的歷史是很重要的。

歷史文化的好處，我們可以先從歷史本身進行分析。首先，History helps us see the world around in a new way. 比如，習以為常的自來水其實也大有學問，你有沒有想過其背後的城市供水機制呢？How many people know where their water comes from, who tests it for purity, or how society evolved to safeguard such controls?

其次，瞭解過去，才能認識當下和未來。The past caused the present, and then the future. History helps us understand change and how the society we live in came into being.

再者，瞭解歷史，更是能夠引以為戒，躲避危險。A deep knowledge of the past will inform your actions, and hopefully prevent you from making the mistakes of your ancestors.

最後，瞭解歷史能夠更好地認知自我，History provides sense of identity.

除去這些歷史本身存在的意義，歷史更會給我們帶來一些附加的好處：首先，瞭解歷史，可以鍛鍊我們的理解能力和思考能力。History helps us learn how to take in vast amounts of information and, most importantly, to accept the fact that many problems have no clear-cut answer. 其次呢，歷史更是一個很好的聊天話題，便於社交。

Some schools teach students world history, while others teach students history of their own country. Which do you agree?

一些學校教學生世界歷史，另一些學校教學生自己國家的歷史。你同意哪個？

這道題目，如果選擇自己國家的歷史，可以從sense of identity的角度說，增加民族認同感；可以從study pressure的角度說，減輕學習負擔。如果選擇世界歷史，可以從understand change的角度說，更好地認識當今世界；可以從social life的角度說，更容易和其他國家的人交流；此外呢，學習世界歷史有利於理解本國曆史。
