
繼2024年5月至6月東南大學與賓夕法尼亞大學聯合舉辦主題為“設計結合自然”(Design with Nature)的主題展覽、學術研討會和夏校之後,今年5月至6月兩校將再次聯手舉辦主題為“創新性鄉域景觀”(Innovative Rural-scape)的國際夏校和學術研討會,本次夏校將邀請安徽建築大學和合肥工業大學參加。
中美高校60餘位師生走入中國鄉村,從作為鄉土建築與鄉域景觀源發性樣本的徽州傳統村落到正在踐行宜居宜業和美鄉村理念的新時代浙江農村,師生們將透過田野調查、文獻學習與創新設計,認識理解鄉土中國的文脈基底,親身感知鄉村振興戰略實施程序中鄉域景觀的創新性演進。
為期兩週的國際聯合夏校將為中美兩國青年架設溝通、瞭解和信任的橋樑,也為歷史和現實中的多域景觀演進研究做出學術貢獻。
Following the joint exhibition, symposium, and summer program on "Design with Nature" co-hosted by Southeast University and the University of Pennsylvania in May–June 2024, the two institutions will reconvene this May–June for "Innovative Rural-scape"—an international summer school and academic symposium. This year's program expands its partnership to include Anhui Jianzhu University and Hefei University of Technology.
Over 60 faculty members and students from Chinese and American universities will immerse themselves in rural China, studying sites ranging from Huizhou's traditional villages (archetypal models of vernacular architecture and rural landscapes) to Zhejiang's contemporary villages, where the ethos of "livable, workable, and harmonious rural revitalization" is being realized. Through fieldwork, archival research, and innovative design, participants will decode the cultural foundations of rural China and witness firsthand the transformative evolution of rural landscapes under national revitalization strategies.
The two-week international joint summer school will build a bridge of communication, understanding and trust for young people from China and the United States, and also make academic contributions to the research on the evolution of multi-domain landscapes in history and reality.

本次夏校教學課程將經歷上海、南京、徽州和杭州四地,對中國江南地區最具典型性的鄉域景觀樣本和案例進行考察研究,所到之處包含都市景觀、城鄉地景、傳統村落和當代鄉建等不同型別。師生們將透過文獻學習、田野調查與創新設計等方式提出自己的創意與方案。
This summer school teaching program will go through Shanghai, Nanjing, Huizhou, and Hangzhou to investigate and study the most typical rural landscape samples and cases in the Jiangnan region of China, which include different types of urban landscapes, urban and rural landscapes, traditional villages, and contemporary rural construction. Teachers and students will come up with their own ideas and programs through literature study, fieldwork, and innovative design.

上海 | 都市景觀考察研究
上海部分的教學研習將圍繞當代都市景觀中3個關鍵議題展開,即工業遺產、歷史街區和街巷空間。這些議題分別在徐匯濱江片區、蘇州河及外灘片區、新天地和衡復歷史文化風貌區4個考察地點有著頗具代表性和典型性的呈現。
透過對上述都市景觀案例的實地考察,結合相關歷史脈絡講解、當代設計分析等教學手段,本次夏校的上海段教學將引導學生對都市景觀背後的歷史演進機制、當下問題以及規劃設計策略進行貫通性思考,並由此形成對中國當代大都市景觀多維度、深層次的認知和理解。

Shanghai: Urban Landscape Research Study
The Shanghai section of the workshop will focus on three key issues in contemporary urban landscapes: industrial heritage, historic districts, and street space. These issues are presented in four representative and typical locations: Xuhui Riverside Area, Suzhou Creek and the Bund, Xintiandi, and Hengfu Historical and Cultural Landscape Area.
Through the field study of these urban landscapes, combined with the explanation of the relevant history and the analysis of contemporary design and other teaching tools, the Shanghai section of the summer school will guide students to think about the historical evolution mechanism behind urban landscapes, the current problems and the planning and design strategies, and to develop a multi-dimensional and deeper understanding of China's contemporary metropolitan landscapes.

南京 | 城鄉地景考察研究
南京部分的教學研習將側重聚焦“城市自然中的歷史地景與城郊鄉村景觀”這一方向,作為“六朝古都”的南京城,擁有獨特的江南自然山水條件和深厚的城鄉民間文化,我們將探訪南京地標性歷史紀念建築中山陵和音樂臺,以及處於城鄉結合地帶的城郊自然鄉村,一種融合城鄉人文歷史與社會經濟樣態的當代城鎮化鄉域景觀風貌躍然呈現,以此引導學生理解並探索自然地景是如何嵌入城市並與其發生持續性關聯的,而擁有發達市場網路的城郊地帶又與當代城市發展、鄉鎮演進以及民間生活存在怎樣的互動關係。

Nanjing: Urban and Rural Landscape Study
The Nanjing part of the study will focus on the direction of “Historical Landscapes in Urban Nature and Suburban Rural Landscapes”. As the ancient capital of the Six Dynasties, Nanjing has unique natural landscape conditions in the South of the Yangtze River and profound urban and rural folk cultures, and we will visit the landmark historical monuments of the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum and the Music Stage, as well as the natural rural landscape in the combined urban and rural areas. We will visit Nanjing's landmark historical monuments, such as the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum and the Concert Hall, as well as the natural countryside on the outskirts of the city in the urban/rural area, where a contemporary urbanized countryside landscape integrating urban/rural humanities, history, and socio-economic patterns will be presented, thus guiding the students to understand and explore how the natural landscape is embedded in the city and is continuously associated with it, and how the suburban area with a well-developed market network interacts with the contemporary development of the city, the townships, and the folk life. and folklore.

徽州 | 傳統村落考察研究與創新設計
徽州部分的教學研習將圍繞“傳統村落考察研究與創新設計”這一目標進行。作為享譽世界的中國鄉土村落和鄉土建築的“名片”,徽州傳統村落在自然格局、風水形勝、景觀營造,以及商賈貿易和文化禮制等方面均達到空前的物質程度、精神高度與人文厚度。
本次考察研究中,我們將首先對徽州傳統村落中風水文化及自然佈局綜合型經典村落——宏村進行總體認知研習,進而對徽州典型宗族型村落——仁裡村、湖裡村,典型景觀型村落——西溪南村,典型山地型村落——靈山村,典型耕讀型村落——黃村,典型水域街巷型村落——漁梁等共7個不同型別村落進行深度考察研究,並針對其中代表性地塊進行融合遺產保護、改造、更新、活化等方式在內的創新設計,意在引導學生理解並探索中國傳統鄉村營造中的風水觀、自然觀與營造智慧,探尋其物質環境發展與自然演進中深刻的生態與人文關聯,進而迸發出對其如何因應當下及未來城鄉發展挑戰的深度思考,發現其自身所蘊藏的巨大自然潛能、文化動能和潛在創新機能。

Hangzhou: Contemporary Rural Construction Research and Design Study
The Huizhou part of the teaching and learning will be centered on the goal of “research and innovative design of traditional villages”. As the world-renowned “business card” of Chinese vernacular villages and vernacular architecture, Huizhou traditional villages have achieved unprecedented material, spiritual, and humanistic thickness in terms of natural layout, feng shui, landscape creation, trade and culture, and etiquette.
In this research, we will first study the overall knowledge of Hongcun, a classic village in Huizhou with comprehensive fengshui culture and natural layout, and then we will study the typical clan-type villages in Huizhou–Renli Village and Huli Village, the typical landscape-type villages–Xixinan Village, and the typical landscape-type villages–Xixinan Village, and the typical landscape-type villages–Xixinan Village, and the typical landscape-type villages–Xixinan Village. –Xixi South Village, a typical mountainous village – Lingshan Village, a typical farming village – Huangcun Village, a typical waterside village – Yuoliang and so on, a total of seven different villages. -The aim is to guide students to understand and explore the feng shui, nature, and wisdom of traditional Chinese villages, and to explore the profound ecological and humanistic connections between the development of the physical environment and the evolution of nature. 杭州 | 當代鄉建考察調研與設計研究
浙江是中國當代鄉建最為前沿的地區之一,是習近平總書記“綠水青山就是金山銀山”理念的提出之地,20多年來的“千村示範、萬村整治”工程已取得驕人的成績。在此背景下,杭州部分的課程內容將主要關注當代鄉建的優秀案例與相應的學術議題。考察調研地點分別設在桐廬、富陽和杭州市區。
桐廬行程的主要參訪地點是莪山鄉戴家山村,在此主要關注張雷等當代建築師在傳統村落的鄉建實踐專案,以及這些專案與地方傳統的融合、共生關係。富陽行程的主要參訪地點是文村及周邊鄉村,將重點關注王澍如何以建築設計介入鄉村振興,還將透過與周邊村落的對比探討建築設計與自發營造的差異與互補。
杭州市區的行程主要包括西湖風景區和中國美院象山校區,前者體現了傳統中國山水理念與城市建設的深度融合,而後者則是將傳統山水理念、地域營造智慧融入到了當代景觀和建築的設計實踐之中。
總體而言,杭州段的教學將關注傳統設計智慧在當代設計中的轉譯與運用,引導學生考察並分析已有的理念、方式和方法,並探索面向未來的、更具創新性的設計思維。

Hangzhou: Contemporary Rural Construction Research and Design Study
Zhejiang is one of the most cutting-edge areas of contemporary rural development in China, where General Secretary Xi Jinping put forward the concept of “green water and green mountains are golden silver mountains”, and where the “Thousands of Villages Demonstration and Ten Thousand Villages Rectification” project has achieved remarkable results over the past 20 years. In this context, the Hangzhou part of the course content will focus on the excellent cases of contemporary rural construction and the corresponding academic issues. The study and research locations are in Tonglu, Fuyang, and Hangzhou.
The main place of visit for the Tonglu program is Daijiashan Village in Zuoshan Township, where the main focus is on Zhang Lei's and other contemporary architects' practice of rural construction in traditional villages, as well as the integration and symbiotic relationship between these projects and local traditions. The Fuyang trip will focus on Wen Village and the surrounding villages, focusing on Wang Shu's architectural intervention in rural revitalization, as well as exploring the differences and complementarities between architectural design and spontaneous creation through comparisons with the surrounding villages. The trip to Hangzhou city mainly includes the West Lake Scenic Area and the Xiangshan Campus of the China Academy of Art. The former embodies the deep integration of traditional Chinese landscape concepts with urban construction, while the latter integrates traditional landscape concepts and regional creation wisdom into contemporary landscape and architectural design practices.
Overall, the Hangzhou section will focus on the translation and application of traditional design wisdom in contemporary design, guiding students to examine and analyze existing concepts, approaches, and methods, and to explore future-oriented and more innovative design thinking.

Summer School Outcomes
教學方式
本次夏校主題,從3項議題中選擇方向並擬定本小組選題,在考察調研行程中開展研究、設計或將二者結合,每段行程提交研究報告1份(形式自由,可為圖文結合或影像材料),最終答辯日提交正式成果。
For the summer school theme, the group will choose from three topics and formulate a topic of their choice, carry out research, design or a combination of the two during the study tour, submit a research report for each leg of the tour (in a free form, which can be a combination of graphic and visual materials), and submit the official results on the day of the final defense.

2024年夏校活動回顧

夏校成果整體上分為研究型成果和設計型成果兩大類,每組可選擇其中一類,也可綜合兩類穿插進行,具體介紹如下:

圍繞本次夏校主題,在考察行程中選擇一處、多處或一系列具有代表性的場所,進行概念性創新設計,最終完成設計文字1套、ppt彙報檔案1份、可供展示的A0大板2張及以上。設計內容可從建議選題中選擇或結合自身調研擬定,可結合手繪、模型和影像影片等手段。

2024年夏校活動回顧
Outcome Requirements:
The summer school results as a whole are divided into two categories: research-based results and design-based results, and each group can choose one of these categories or synthesize the two categories, interspersed, as described below:
(1) Research-oriented results
Focusing on the theme of this summer school, choosing one or more directions from the three topics, combining with literature research, through fieldwork, field investigation, field survey and mapping, etc., and finally completing one academic research report, one PPT report document, and two or more large A0 boards that can be used for display. It is required that the theme is clear, the structure is complete, the illustrations and texts are exquisite, and the means, such as image and video, can be integrated.
(2) Design-based results
Focusing on the theme of this summer school, select one, more, or a series of representative places in the study tour, carry out conceptually innovative design, and finally complete 1 set of design text, 1 PPT report document, 2 or more A0 large boards for display. The design content can be selected from the proposed topics or formulated in conjunction with your own research, and can be combined with hand-drawing, modeling, video, and other means.
