Global Chinese New Year Photography Competition

Announcement of Winning Works

The 2025 Global Chinese New Year Photography Competition is a prestigious international cultural event. As a key initiative of the World Cultural Arts Organization (unwcao) Sustainable Development Program, this competition aims to foster cross-cultural exchange and understanding through the powerful medium of photography. It enhances global awareness and appreciation of Chinese culture, providing a vital platform for showcasing and preserving its heritage.

Global Influence & History

Since its launch in 2016, the competition has become an essential platform for photography enthusiasts worldwide, attracting tens of thousands of submissions. Selected outstanding works have been exhibited at prestigious venues, including:

These international exhibitions underscore the competition’s global impact, highlighting its role in promoting cultural dialogue through visual storytelling.

Expanded Themes & Global Perspectives

The competition focuses on three primary themes: Chinese Culture & HumanityNatural Landscapes of China Overseas Chinese Heritage

By integrating traditional Chinese culture, breathtaking landscapes, and the global Chinese diaspora, the competition presents a multifaceted perspective of China.

For 2025, the contest expands beyond Chinese New Year celebrations, incorporating themes such as China’s social development, technological innovations, modern urban life, and overseas Chinese influences. This broader scope allows for more diverse and internationally relevant entries, encouraging photographers from different backgrounds to use their unique perspectives to tell the evolving story of Chinese culture.

The 2025 Global Chinese New Year Photography Competition received over 42,000 submissions, with 279 winning works. Participating photographers came from China, as well as the United States, Canada, Argentina, Russia, Vietnam, Spain, Italy, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, the United Kingdom, and many other countries and regions.

2025 Special Celebration – 10th Anniversary

As a renowned global photography event, the competition traditionally hosts its award ceremony in New York during the Chinese New Year, attracting photographers, artists, and international media attention. Coverage by major news outlets has significantly boosted the competition’s global reach.

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, the 2025 Award Ceremony will be held in Hangzhou, China, in March. This milestone event not only highlights China’s cultural richness but also provides an immersive and interactive creative opportunity for photographers worldwide.

Zhou Zhuangwen《The Dragon Soars in a Prosperous Era》

The Puzhai Fire Dragon Dance, a traditional dance from Fengshun County, Guangdong Province, is recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage. It is an essential part of Hakka culture in eastern Guangdong, showcasing the region’s rich traditions and festive spirit.

Every year during the Dragon Boat Festival, villages hold dragon boat races along the river. Crowds gather on the banks, cheering enthusiastically, while the sound of drums echoes from the boats, and the paddlers’ strokes cut through the water with powerful momentum.

Every year during the Lantern festival, Chinese people in Ho Chi Minh city's Chinatown will celebrate by marching with many traditional performing arts, and the dragon and lion dance are the most awaited because they believe meeting and touching them will bring luck to themselves.
