外刊裡的高階表達，如何用進英語作文？（2）

原文：

Unfortunately, however, the idea that promoting manufacturing is the way to achieve them is misguided. The reason is that it rests on a series of misconceptions about the nature of the modern economy.

然而，不幸的是，將推動製造業視為實現這一目標的路徑是一個誤區。原因在於，這一觀點建立在對現代經濟本質的一系列誤解之上。

the idea that…is misguided意思是“…這種觀點是錯誤的/被誤導的/站不住腳的”。

idea後面的that…是同位語從句，補充idea內容。

misguided ≈ wrong，但語氣更正式。

這個句型可用於批評某種觀點，從而引出自己的立場。

例如，關於“幸福感與物質主義”的話題，可以說：

The idea that material wealth guarantees happiness is misguided.認為物質財富能保證幸福的觀點是錯誤的。

談到“選擇大城市還是小城市”時，可以說：

The idea that moving to big cities is the only way to achieve success is misguided.認為去大城市是唯一成功途徑的觀點是錯誤的。

部分人認為“畢業生應只追求高薪職業”即可實現幸福，但該觀點片面。可以寫：

在就業競爭和職場“內卷”背景下，“加班越多越有前途”的觀點十分片面。可以寫：

The idea that working overtime is the way to secure a promising future is misguided.

認為加班越多就越能獲得光明前途的觀點是錯誤的。

前幾天有條熱搜，說年輕人消費觀轉向理性，不再為面子買單，可以寫：

The idea that buying expensive products is the best way to show one’s taste is misguided.認為購買昂貴商品是展示個人品味最佳方式的觀點是錯誤的。

這句話可用在議論文中，以“the idea that… is misguided”破題，對反面觀點進行批判，從而引出自己觀點。

回到文中來：The reason is that it rests on a series of misconceptions about the nature of the modern economy.

rest on表示“基於、建立在……之上”，文中it rests on a series of misconceptions about…意思是：這一觀點建立在對…的誤解之上。

例如：

Many people’s confidence rests on the assumption that housing prices will always rise.

很多人的信心建立在房價永遠上漲的假設上。

在“科技創新”話題的寫作中，可以說：

Economic progress in many countries now rests on technological innovation.許多國家的經濟進步如今建立在技術創新之上。

在“環保”話題中，我們可以透過rest on提出建議：

The effectiveness of environmental policies rests on public participation.環保政策的有效性依賴於公眾參與。

前幾天，市監總局約談餓了麼美團京東，要求外賣平臺企業理性競爭。我們可以寫個句子：

The competitive strategies of some delivery platforms rest on excessive subsidies, which are not sustainable in the long run.部分外賣平臺的競爭策略依賴過度補貼，而從長遠看這並不可持續。
