2024年6月25日，HBS公佈了今年新的Essay題目！
之前的題目
“As we review your application, what more would you like us to know as we consider your candidacy for the Harvard Business School MBA program?”
這其實是一個開放性的題目，申請人可以從任何一個角度來選擇素材講述自己的故事。之前這個題目沒有字數限制，後來有了900字的限制。
新的題目
Business-Minded Essay: Please reflect on how your experiences have influenced your career choices and aspirations and the impact you will have on the businesses, organizations, and communities you plan to serve. (up to 300 words)
Leadership-Focused Essay: What experiences have shaped who you are, how you invest in others, and what kind of leader you want to become? (up to 250 words)
Growth-Oriented Essay: Curiosity can be seen in many ways. Please share an example of how you have demonstrated curiosity and how that has influenced your growth. (up to 250 words)
由三個小essay組成，分別從business-minded、leadership-focused和growth-oriented來寫。
第一個要寫你的職業規劃，你經歷了什麼、做過了什麼以及將來想做什麼，你要講述你熱愛的事業，以及你的事業如何讓這個世界變得更好。
第二個要寫你的領導力，你想成為什麼要的領袖、你的領導風格是怎樣的、你的領導力曾經如何幫助和影響了他人。
第三個是要寫你的成長能力和可塑性，你過去遇到困難是如何解決的，你採取了什麼行動來提升自己，你如何證明自己是一個有求知慾的人。
新舊題目對比
Essay的題目，好像變了，又好像沒變。仔細回想我自己之前申請HBS的Essay，以及我幫助申請人修改我的Essay，雖然回答的是開放性的題目，但內容基本上都可以分成新題目中的這三類。新題目唯一沒有涵蓋的話題是Why MBA和Why HBS。其實Why MBA是可以結合在第一篇職業規劃裡面寫的；而Why HBS沒有囊括，我猜測AO希望申請人把重心放在自己身上，而不需要聽“彩虹屁”。
總的來說，我認為新的題目讓寫文書變簡單了。在以前開放性題目的時候，都需要在一開始和申請人花不少時間整理文書的框架，但在新的題目下，直接“打直球”，告訴你要寫什麼，所以在選材構思上省下了不少力氣。
What Else Has Been Changed?
Habit of Leadership
Leadership may be expressed in many forms, from college extracurricular activities to academic or business achievements, from personal accomplishments to community commitments. We appreciate leadership on any scale, from organizing a classroom to directing a combat squad, from running an independent business to spearheading initiatives at work. In essence, we are looking for evidence of your potential.
Analytical Aptitude and Appetite
Harvard Business School is a demanding,fast-paced, and highly-verbal environment. We look for individuals who enjoy lively discussion and debate. Our case and field-based methods of learning depend upon the active participation of prepared students who can assess,analyze, and act upon complex information within often-ambiguous contexts. The MBA Admissions Board will review your prior academic performance, the results of the GMAT or GRE, and, if applicable, TOEFL iBT and/or IELTS, and the nature of your work experience. There is no particular previous course of study required to apply; you must, however, demonstrate the ability to master analytical and quantitative concepts.
Engaged Community Citizenship
So much of our MBA experience – including the case method, section life, and student-organized events – requires the active collaboration of the entire HBS community. That's why we look for students who exhibit the highest ethical standards and respect for others, and can make positive contributions to the MBA Program. The right candidates must be eager to share their experiences, support their colleagues, and teach as well as learn from their peers.
Business-Minded
We are looking for individuals who are passionate about using business as a force for good – who strive to improve and transform companies, industries, and the world. We are seeking those who are eager to solve today’s biggest problems and shape the future through creative and integrated thinking. Being business-minded is about the interest to help organizations succeed, whether in the private, public, or non-profit sector.This business inclination can be found in individuals with a variety of professional and educational experiences, not just those who come from traditional business backgrounds.
In Your Application: We will look for evidence of your interpersonal skills, quantitative abilities, and the ways in which you plan to create impact through business in the future.
Leadership-Focused
We are looking for individuals who aspire to lead others toward making a difference in the world, and those who recognize that to build and sustain successful organizations, they must develop and nurture diverse teams. Leadership takes many forms in many contexts – you do not have to have a formal leadership role to make a difference. We deliberately create a class that includes different kinds of leaders, from the front-line manager to the startup founder to the behind-the-scenes thought leader.
In Your Application: Your leadership impact may be most evident in extracurriculars, community initiatives, or your professional work.
Growth-Oriented
We are looking for individuals who desire to broaden their perspectives through creative problem solving, active listening, and lively discussion. At HBS you will be surrounded by future leaders from around the world who will make you think more expansively about what impact you might have. Our case and field-based learning methods depend on the active participation of curious students who are excited to listen and learn from faculty and classmates, as well as contribute their own ideas and perspectives.
In Your Application: We will look for the ways in which you have grown, developed, and how you engage with the world around you.

變化的契機
簡單的來說就是新官上任三把火！這次的變化是由Rupal Gadhia（去年10月加入HBS擔任managing director of admissions and financial aid），而上次那麼大幅度修改文書題目還是在2016年。
接下來？
