Follow these simple steps to reduce the memory being used by your Wechat App quickly and easily, without deleting your chat records.
Follow these instructions to find the 'Storage' option in Settings
Click on the 'Me' tab (1) in your Wechat App
Click on the 'Settings' Option (2)
Click on the 'General' Menu Option (3)
Here you will find the 'Storage' Tab （4）
After Clicking on this tab you'll be presented with two options for clearing up storage as shown below:
At the top of this page you can see how much memory Wechat is using and how much % of your phone's memory this represents.
You have two main options to clear memory on your phone.
Clear Cache
(Option B above)
This is the easiest way to free up memory! As you use wechat your Wechat App will save temporary files (mainly photos and videos from chats and Wechat moments) locally on your phone,
You can safely clear your Wechat Cache without losing access to any chats or photos. When you need to access those files again Wechat will automatically download them from their servers.
Simply Press the ‘Clean' Button and wait while Wechat automatically clears memory for you.
(Note: Depending on the memory used it could take anywhere from 1 minute to 10 minutes for this operation to complete)
Clear Chat History Files
(Option A Above)
Clearing Chat History files is a great way to free up a large amount of memory on your phone, however when you delete these files you will not be able to access them again, and anyone you sent photos will not be able to access them again..
This option will not delete chat records
, only photos and other files from your chats.
By clicking 'manage', Wechat will take you to a page where you can select which chats you would like to delete files for (See Below). One good way to do this is to
first 'Select All' and then deselect the chats which files you would like to keep.
Once you have selected the chats you'd like to clear
simply press 'Delete' and wait patiently
while Wechat clears up precious phone memory!
Congratulations, after completing these steps you should have cleared up more space in your phone!
If you're still struggling for space two final options remain.
Last Resort Option 1:
Clearing all chat histories
At the bottom of the gerneral settings page, simply click 'Clear Chat Histories' and Wechat will clear all your chat history, removing most of the Wechat data saved by your App.
Last Resort Option 2:
Uninstall and Reinstall the wechat App.
As you use Wechat over time the App will slowly start taking up more and more memory on your phone. One way to take the App back to day one is to simply delte the app and reinstall it on your phone.
