Full-time Research Specialist/Assistant Position at Emory University
The Learning, Understanding, Memory, & Neurodevelopment Lab (LUMeN Lab, PI: Dr.
Alexandra Cohen) in the Department of Psychology at Emory University (Atlanta, GA) is
seeking a full-time Research Assistant (RA) to work on studies examining how motivation
and emotion influence learning, memory, and brain function across development.The RA
will gain experience with all components of the research process, providing excellent
preparation for graduate studies. The RA's primary responsibilities will include:
Data acquisition using behavioral, psychophysiological, and brain imaging
techniques. Because we do developmental work, this will involve interfacing with
families and require occasional flexibility in schedule (working evenings/weekends)
Experimental paradigm development
Data management, analysis, and manuscript preparation
Lab administration including managing IRB protocols, participant recruitment and
screening, and training other lab members
The preferred start date for the position is Summer 2025. A two-year commitment is
requested. Application review will take place on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
Qualifications
Previous research experience, a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or other
related field, and excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are
required.

Preferred qualifications include:

– Interest and/or experience in cognitive neuroscience research, particularly in
developmental populations (children, adolescents)

– Computational, statistical, and technical skills (e.g. fluency with R, Matlab, and/or
Python)

– Experience collecting and/or analyzing neuroimaging data

– Experience working with Qualtrics, RedCap, and/or other survey distribution tools

INTRODUCTION TO THE Bradley Hasbro Children’s Research Center (BHCRC): The BHCRC jointly houses Bradley Hospital and Rhode
Island Hospital psychologists, child psychiatrists, postdoctoral fellows, psychology interns and research staff and provides a climate
of active research and productive collaboration within the center and throughout the larger Brown Medical School affiliated hospital
systems.
OPEN POSITION: The Adolescent Risk Prevention Research Lab in the BHCRC is looking for a full-time clinical research assistant (RA)
to work on NIH-funded research projects related to emotion regulation and risk behaviors. Possible projects include Project LIVE, a
Virtual Reality (VR) study aiming to understand physiological measures of emotion regulation (respiratory sinus arrhythmia) as
predictors of sexual- and drug- risk behavior during early adolescence. Project ONTRAC focuses on preventing substance use among
early adolescents involved in the child welfare system through a web-based intervention program. This program aims to teach skills
related to emotion regulation, in an effort to reduce substance use behaviors. Project iTRAC-HERO is also developing an online
intervention to prevent sexual risk among adolescents by teaching emotion regulation skills. The RA position includes a combination
of research and clinical elements with a focus on middle school adolescents. Importantly, it also involves creating inclusive science
that represents the communities these projects recruit from. A two-year commitment is preferred.
RESEARCH DUTIES: Duties may include presenting research opportunities to youth and families in school or community settings,
completing research assessments and interviews, contributing to intervention development procedures, managing data entry,
cleaning, and analysis, preparing Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions, drafting study progress reports for funders, coding
participant data, as well as collaborating with community partners. Project LIVE also involves collecting physiological data (ECG and
RSA) and biological samples (saliva and urine). Participating in multidisciplinary discussions regarding research design and
implementation is expected.
OTHER: Mentorship from PhD-level psychologists and opportunities to participate and assist with academic tasks (e.g., poster
presentations, writing scientific articles for publication, and grant submissions) also occur in the lab. A strong academic record is
important and past research experience is desirable.
QUALIFICATIONS: • Baccalaureate Degree in a Human Service field preferably in psychology, neuroscience, or related fields. • Acareer interest in clinical psychology or health-related field. • Excellent computer and communication (verbal and written) skills. •Past research project experience (preferred). • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. • The ability to work well withadolescents and parents. • A strong sense of responsibility towards work. • A willingness to tackle complex tasks in an independent
manner. • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft applications. • Knowledge of SPSS is not required but is desirable. • Possession of a car
for participant home visits in Rhode Island will be required. • To accommodate schedules of families in the community, some
availability in evenings and on Saturdays is required.

Job Description:
The Institute for Juvenile Research (IJR) in the Department of Psychiatry is seeking a full time Research
Associate II
Social Sciences for the ACCESS for Mental Health Lab, directed by Dr. Tara G. Mehta and
housed within IJR. Our lab is dedicated to alleviating disparities in access to mental health services for
children and families, with a focus on vulnerable populations (e.g., urban poverty, ethnic/racial
minorities). The research assistant/associate will support the research efforts of the ACCESS for Mental
Health Lab, specifically a NIMH-
funded R01 study titled “Patient Navigators for Children’s Community
Mental Health Services in High Poverty Urban Communities”. The purpose of the study is to examine the
effectiveness of peer-support specialists as navigators in engaging families within children’s mentalhealth systems for Black and Latinx children, aged 0-14, who live in high poverty urban communities.
This position entails a variety of skills and tasks dealing with the execution of a large, longitudinal
community-based research study. The successful candidate will be exceptionally detail oriented, possess
strong oral and written communication skills, be able to juggle multiple tasks, and have strong
interpersonal skills. Specific tasks include following established research protocols to recruit and consent
participants, collecting and managing quantitative and qualitative data, coordinating the maintenance of
data collection and analyses tools (e.g., via REDCap), and maintaining positive relationships with
community partners.
Additionally, two or more years of experience in a clinical (human subjects) research setting (or
equivalent combination of education and experience), ability to speak Spanish (to recruit, consent, and
communicate with Spanish-speaking participants) , and prior experience with data processing and
statistical software (e.g. REDCap, Microsoft and Google suites, SPSS/R), as well as human subjects
research (IRBs), are preferred but not required.
The candidate will also prepare research results for presentations and reports, with opportunities to
contribute to publications, grants, and presentations. The candidate may perform other duties related
to psychological research and participate in special projects as assigned.
