首先,PHD/MD/JD基本與商科的同學們無關。
其次,關於本科生,McKinsey 說:“Our undergraduates join us with a variety of backgrounds—there is no one right major or course of study. We hire a good balance of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, humanities, economics, and business majors every year. The common qualities are excellent academic performance, meaningful leadership abilities, and work experience on or off campus. We are looking for strong problem solvers with potential—we will teach you the rest.”
也確實如此,consultant,尤其是戰略諮詢類consultant,並不應只侷限於某個特定的行業,更何況本科生小鮮肉們剛出鍋的時候很難有老練毒辣的行業洞見,因此McKinsey尋找的本科生需要有problem-solver的特質,簡稱聰明。如何低成本高效率地篩選出聰明人?答案就是從名校出身的鮮肉們中確定最有潛力的那一個。儘管非名校中也可能有聰明人,但除非你有酷炫的CV和狂霸拽的cover letter能讓HR開啟郵件30秒內不選擇刪除,否則求職基本上是石沉大海。因此consulting界也有投行一般的target school的說法。
