Daniel'sname means "God will execute judgmentsfor me."Theprophet Daniel, a descendant of the noble family of Judah, was taken to Babylonas one of the first exiles when Judah fell in 605 BC (2 Ch 36:5-8). He was recognized for his wisdomand knowledge and held important positions in the courts of Babylon and theMedes and Persians.Daniel worked for more than seventy years witnessing thefall of his country, the fall of Babylon, and the rise of the Persian Empire.
Thisbook describes what happened to the chosen people in the time of exile and theprophecy, the historical course of the time God set for Israel, the evolutionof the day of the Gentiles' coming to power, and the outcome of world history.In the face of conceited tyrants, numerous idolaters, and his own suffering,the brave Daniel, instead of yielding and disheartened, strengthened his faithin and loyalty to God. He knows that God has great authority, and that He has aplan for nations and for everyone. Daniel revolves around this profound truth– the sovereign authority of God.
Danieland Ezekiel were contemporaneous prophets, one held office at court and the other wasout of office. One spokemuch of the Gentiles,the other spoke much of Israel. Both were inspired and both hadvisions, saying that in the last days the kingdom of Israel (thekingdom of Christ) would berestored and the temple of God would be built. The book of Daniel is also closelyrelated to the book of Revelation.Theycorrespond to each other and they were the echoing,contrasting, and concordant in its contents. Thisvolume is made up of two major parts. The first part (Chapters 1-6) is mainlyabout history (the historical part) and the second part (Chapters 7-12) ismainly about prophecy (the prophetic part).
(Chapters1-6) tells the story of Daniel and his three companions in exile, set inBabylonian and Persian times.They were witnesses of God in the royal palace,the political center of the foreign empire. They held fast to their faith, didnot defile themselves, refused to worship idols, prayed constantly, and bytheir faith and obedience to God prevailed over their enemies.All these years,Daniel and his three friends quietly and faithfully performed their duties asloyal members of the nation and true people of God. They were academicallytrained to be members of the Chaldean elite, serving as advisers to the king.This gave Daniel a wonderful opportunity to explain to King Nebuchadnezzar thevision of the future world and revealed thefuture of mankind.
Thegolden image in the plain of Dulah, the foreign dream of Nebuchadnezzar, the dry moat ofBabylon, King Belshazzar’s feast for athousand people,all tell to the people of the last days the history of the past and the futuredestiny of mankind. It shows the process of the rise and fall of the four Empires in succession in history, and showsthe eternal kingdom that God will eventually establish. It shows what God didwith ancient Babylon and the role the country played in God's plan. God hasdone to all nations in history, as he did to Babylon, a process of rise andfall. The fate of every nation is to be measured and judged by how faithfullyit performs the will of God.
(Chapter7-12)is a series of visions seen by Daniel, symbolizing the rise and fall of Babylonand the subsequent empires. These visions, together with the golden imagedreamed by King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon in Chapter 2, constitute a profoundhistorical vision of the book, revealing that human history is under thesovereignty of God.The great empires that take turns on the stage of historymust rise and fall one by one according to the prophecy. The 2,300-day prophecycovers a long period of human history, elaborately mapping out significantevents in history that have been relevant to God's people.Whether the prophecyof 2300 days can be correctly interpreted becomes an important sign to measurethe last true remnant.Especially in the end of the world, the King of the Southand the Kingof the Northintricate struggle scene, upsand downs, wonderful, it is suspended in reading. The propheciesin the book of Daniel, its influence will be important in thepresent day.The omens of current events in the worldare preciselyplaying out its last part without much error.
Atthe end of the book, God says, "Daniel,hide the words and seal the book until the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledgeshall be increased "(Dan 12:4).Thefull understanding of the book of Daniel will clearly come to light towards theend. In ancient times, even a hundred years ago, people went back and forth atthe speed of walking, running, riding on horses, or riding in carriages.However, since about 100 years ago, the world's technology has entered a stageof rapid development. From the primitive tool of riding a horse to thespaceship to the sky, this speed leap has been achieved in just a hundredyears. This shows that the world has entered the last era. At this point,"knowledge will grow," not only in scientific knowledge, but also inthe knowledge of understanding the prophecies of the Bible, until they arefully opened.
Jesusspoke of the importance of the Book of Daniel: "You shall see the abomination that causes desolation spokenof by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place(People who are reading the scripture need to understand).Then let thosewho are in Judea flee to the mountains "(Mt. 24:15-16).By"understanding," Jesus meant that the book of Daniel not onlyprophesies about the Jews' bloody destruction of Jerusalem by the Roman Empirein AD 70, but also warns of events to come just before the end of the world.
Theworld crisis and all the signs we see today show that we have come to the pointof the great and serious event referred to at the end of Daniel — the lasttime of the battle between the King of the South and the King of theNorth.Every country and every field in the world is in great turmoil. Suchuniversal and frequent upheavals have never been seen before.Now the chaos ofthe world has reached a moment of great importance that calls for God's directintervention in human history.At this criticaljuncture, it is urgent to know the signs of current events, to know the Bible'sprophecies, and to know how God is treating and dealing with the world turmoilat this time!
