Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh has married her longtime partner Jean Todt in a ceremony in Switzerland – nearly two decades after the French businessman first proposed to her.
Yeoh, 60, who earlier this year became the first woman of Asian descent to win the Academy Award for best actress, confirmed her marriage to Todt, 77, a former head of Ferrari, on Instagram over the weekend.
“19 years and YES!! we are married!! Thkq to our ‘families’ who love us for all these years. We love you and here’s to many more to come,” the Malaysian actress wrote.
The post included images of the two exchanging rings and another of them sitting snuggled together on a bed decorated with flower petals.
A shot of a printed wedding message posted to Instagram by racing driver Felipe Massa, who was a guest at the ceremony, gave a glimpse into the long love story that led to last week’s nuptials.
“We met in Shanghai on 4th June 2004. On 26th July 2004, J.T. proposed to marry M.Y. and she said YES! Today after 6,992 days on 27th July 2023 in Geneva surrounded by loving family and friends, we are so happy to celebrate this special moment together!” the message read.
Yeoh broke into a new level of celebrity status this year for her acclaimed performance in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”
The movie, which follows the story of a Chinese immigrant and laundromat owner who finds herself at the center of a struggle in the multiverse, won seven Oscars out of 11 nominations – including best picture – at the Academy Awards in March. When accepting her Oscar, the star called it a “beacon of hope and possibilities” for “all the little boys and girls who look like me.” Yeoh, who did many of the stunts in the action film herself, also gave a shout out to women, saying: “Ladies, don’t let anybody tell you you’re ever past your prime.”
Movie credits for Yeoh, who is widely considered an icon of martial arts cinema, also include Marvel Studio’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” (2021), “Crazy Rich Asians” (2018), “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor” (2008), “Memoirs Of A Geisha” (2005) and “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” (2000).
She made her name in Hong Kong action movies of the 1980s and 90s, before her breakthrough international role in 1997 opposite Pierce Brosnan in “Tomorrow Never Dies.”
And Yeoh’s part in that James Bond movie received a nod at her wedding – among images the actress shared announcing her marriage was a fake film poster with the title: “Love Never Dies.”
The poster doctored an image from an epic motorcycle ride in the Bond flick to replace Brosnan’s face with Todt’s, while Yeoh appears on the back of the bike.
Todt posted the framed image on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter, over the weekend, thanking long-time Bond producer Barbara Broccoli for the “touching” wedding gift.
Todt, who made his name as a World Rally Championship co-driver, is also a former president of Formula 1’s governing body, the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile. He currently serves as the United Nations Secretary General’s special envoy for road safety.

During her Best Actress acceptance speech at the 95th Academy Awards, Michelle Yeoh profusely thanked her family, but didn't mention her partner of nearly 20 years. So just who is this man of mystery? Yeoh was a star in Hong Kong as far back in the mid-1980s, but she really broke through for U.S. audiences with the 2000 film "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." Her role as Evelyn Wang in "Everything Everywhere All At Once" in 2022 had people packing into theaters.
"I'm no good at anything." "Exactly! I've seen thousands of Evelyns, but never an Evelyn like you." Since the massive hit film was released, Yeoh has racked up lots of major awards, including a Golden Globe, Oscar, and SAG award. Her professional life couldn't be better, but what about her romantic life? Before her current relationship, Yeoh was married to a businessman from Hong Kong named Dickson Poon, according to Hollywood Life. When the couple married in 1988, Yeoh decided to put her acting career on the back burner. It's unclear as to what caused the couple to separate, but after four years of marriage, they split. Yeoh's career soon took off again with a string of hit Hong Kong action movies in the early 1990s.
Yeoh took her time to jump back into the dating scene and began seriously seeing her current partner, Jean Todt, in 2004. Todt has been by his leading lady's side ever since.
Todt is the former president of Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, the Paris-based automotive association that serves as the governing body of Formula One, among other racing organizations. That's lucky for Yeoh, who told Town & Country that she is a terrible driver.
She's so bad that the actor has gone to serious lengths to hide her driver's license. She shared, "I'm hopeless. I've taken my own license and put it in the safe." According to Fia University, Todt held the presidential position from 2009 until 2021.
Clearly his automotive know-how helped win Yeoh's affections. With him around, she never has to drive. But the actress also revealed that she fell for his sense of humor and blue eyes.
Michelle Yeoh and Jean Todt knew they were made for one another. Town & Country notes that the couple got engaged in 2005, just one year after they started dating. Nearly 18 years have passed, and the couple still has yet to walk down the aisle.
Rumors swirled that the couple would get married in 2022. Yeoh never confirmed the speculation, but she did share that she and Todt were "thinking" about it. That year has come and gone, and the wedding still hasn't happened yet. Yeoh revealed Todt has actually kept a count of the number of days since they got engaged. The actor constantly jokes with Todt about how long their engagement has been. She said, "I'll ask him, 'What is the present for 6,725 days?'" Yeoh said that she and Todt have simply been too busy to get married, and considering that Yeoh just had one of the biggest years of her career, it may be a little bit longer before the wedding day comes.
"It took many years." Though Yeoh and Todt aren't yet married, Yeoh has become a stepmother figure of sorts to Jean's son, Nicolas Todt. Now 45, Nicolas was already an adult in his mid-20s when his father started dating Yeoh. Before he fell madly in love with Yeoh, Jean was previously married and had Nicolas with his ex-wife in 1977, according to Hollywood Life.
By the time Yeoh began her relationship with Jean, Nicolas had already begun following in his father's footsteps. Nicolas founded All Roads Management in 2003, and is currently a French motorsport owner. So, it's truly a case of like father, like son. Since Nicolas was older, he continued to live a life separate from all the Hollywood glamour, but that doesn't mean he and Yeoh aren't close.
Based on the actor's Instagram, she and Nicolas have regular hangouts with one another. In December 2020, Yeoh posted a photo of herself, Jean, and Nicolas out to dinner. She captioned the post, "With my Todt boys and the best dinner." This night together was probably special for all three, as they live extremely busy lives. But they clearly have a great relationship with one another.
