Research Area Specialist Associate for the Clinical Trial Focused on Reducing High-Risk Alcohol Use at the University of Michigan

The University of Michigan Medical School’s Department of Psychiatry is seeking a full-time Research Area Specialist Associate to serve as a Research Therapist/Health Coach on an exciting clinical trial focused on reducing high-risk alcohol use; a key factor in preventing surgical complications. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in gaining clinical research experience and building a foundation for graduate study or careers in psychology, public health, and other related fields. The position may also offer opportunities to contribute to conference posters, scientific presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.
As part of our dynamic research team, you’ll:• Conduct health coaching sessions with participants• Manage and monitor a mobile health intervention• Assist in the development of educational materials and resources• Support data collection, fidelity tracking, and quality control efforts• Collaborate closely with the PI, project manager, and other researchers
What we are looking for:• A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in psychology, public health, social work, counseling, or a related field• Training or experience in motivational interviewing, health coaching, or related behavioral support• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage participants and work as part of a multidisciplinary team• 1–3 years of relevant experience (a Master’s degree may substitute for some of this)• Comfort with independently managing day-to-day responsibilities in a research setting
